Summer is the season when your skin needs extra care and precaution. The skin which looked glowing during the winter suddenly starts to look dull, blemished and oily in summer. Sun damage can lead to premature aging of the skin, wrinkles, marks and dry skin, over time. And, skin is the most noticeable organ of our body. So, it is essential to take care of your skin, especially in summer.
Follow these helpful tips to get ready to face the sun’s rays as you prepare to show more skin:
Keep your body hydrated
It is very helpful to drink 3-4 liters of water a day; it keeps your body hydrated. Seasonal summer food items like watermelon, leafy greens and berries have a higher concentration of water to help you stay hydrated in the heat. During summer season, your body loses lots of water fluid by sweating and flushing the toxins. So, you need to increase the daily intake of water and keep yourself hydrated.
Exfoliate your skin
Exfoliation of skin in summer season gives you a new glowing skin as this process removes dead, dulling skin debris to prevent congestion and improve hydration for toners and moisturizers. You can make a good scrub at home with the mixture of 4-5 tablespoon of gram flour, a pinch of turmeric, 5-6 drops of rose water and milk or yogurt. It works best if you exfoliate your skin in the mornings before applying makeup. This way, your make up will last longer.
Note: Always shield fresh exfoliated skin with an SPF and you can apply hydrating body cream to remain in moisture.
Stay Indoors Between 11am- 3pm
It is impossible to stay indoors all day without doing any work, but, try to stay indoors or shed yourself from direct exposure to sun’s rays. During this time period, rays of the sun are strongest and can provide an adverse effect on your skin.
Application of sunscreen is the best way to keep your skin protected in summer. Choose sunscreen with the right combination of sunscreen lotion and moisturizer, also including adequate sun protection factor (SPF). You can get help from the home made anti-oxidants for long-term benefits. It is recommended to apply sunscreen 30 minutes prior to stepping out.
Avoid Tanning Beds
Don’t expose yourself to tanning salon; this will increase the risk of skin cancer. If you really want summer skin color, avoid tanning beds and make use of tanning towels and lotions. Also, make sure you checked the ingredients label to ensure the base formulation is safe.
Note: Avoid methylparaben and synthetic perfume if possible.
Examine Your Skin Regularly
It will be good if you examine your skin at least once in a month. And, be alert with the type of moles that have changed shape and size or hurt, itch or bleed. You should perform a “mole patrol” to check for signs of sun damage on your skin.
