Beautiful hair is our prized possession. We care our hair just like the way as we do with health and skin. Balanced diet with plenty of nutrients will help in achieving a healthy lustrous strong and long hair. But sometimes, no matter what we do, our hair may not grow longer than certain length.

Hair extension is the solution for some of the major hair related issues. It is a technique to hide any bad hair day or add in some style, volume and shine to your otherwise dull petite and frizzy hair style. Hair extensions are gaining popularity these days. There are different types and methods of hair extensions to be fitted into your natural hair. Choosing a hair extension method can be overwhelming as there are so many different options available on the market. The best method that suits you depends on several factors like hair type, lifestyle and budget.

Hair extensions add length, volume and even chemical free highlights within minutes to an hour. Hair extension methods can be broken down into four different attachments; strand by strand, weft, clip extensions, and micro-link skin weft.

Clip-in extension and other temporary extensions
Clip in extensions have been around for a while and still stand to be one of the best temporary methods. Clip in as little or as many wefts to customize your desired thickness and remove them yourself at any time. This is non committal hair styling option. Clip-less extensions where hair pieces that are attached using undetectable wire are referred as halo hair extensions. These extensions are not for longer period of time and removed before bed. It is not suitable in thin or fine hair as it gets the base appear bulky and heavy on the wearer.

Tape-in extensions
Tape-in extensions are best for women with thin or fine hair. Tape-in extensions are a more permanent solution for long locks as they are attached to your natural hair with adhesive on one side. Despite their permanence, they are very gentle on your strands. Each “weft” of hair consists of two—one-inch sections—and those are applied onto your real hair.

Micro link extensions
A semi permanent hair extension method where your hair is pulled through silicon lined micro link skin wefts and clamped shut using closing tool. The price depends on how many wefts are added. Links can be added for length and volume. Clients do need to be careful not to use conditioner near the bead to help reduce slipping of the extension. Micro links last for around four months.

Fusion or keratin bond
Hot or cold fusion is used in individual keratin bonds. Fusion extensions are great for clients seeking length and volume and want little maintenance while the extensions are in. These permanent extensions are applied strand by strand and covered by the top layer of hair. Hot fusion is a traditional method of gluing hair extensions to natural hair. Attached by melting the keratin bonds onto your real hair, they form a durable bond to lay flat to your head with little to no breakage and easy removal.

Sewn in extensions
These extensions are suitable for coarse, curly or thick natural hair. They are applied by being sewn into tightly-braided section of client’s natural hair. It is not exactly suitable for clients with thin hair as they do not have enough hair to make the small braid to hold the hair extension. Sew-ins are cost-effective, easy maintenance and fairly easy to remove. The client’s hair is braided tightly to create a base for the hair wefts to be sewn and attached. Clients need to have the hair retightened through the four months.
